j~nAnashaktidharaH skandaH devasenApatistathA |
subrahmaNyo gajArUDhaH sharakAnanasambhavaH || 1||
kArtikeyaH kumArashcha ShaNmukhastArakAntakaH |
senAnIrbrahmashAstA cha vallIkalyANasundaraH || 2||
bAlashcha krau~nchabhettA cha shikhivAhana eva cha |
etAni svAminAmAni ShoDasha pratyahaH naraH |
yaH paThet sarvapApebhyaH sa muchyate mahAmune || 3||
COMMENTS:
In the following comments some abbreviations are used. They are -
(1) VS - Vishnu sahasranama. (2) SS - Siva sahasranama (Padma Purana).
(3) BG - Bhagavad Giata (4) BH - Shrimad Bhagavatam
(5) LS - Lalita sahasranamam.
Our religion lays great emphasis on the purificatory power of the Lord's name.

pratatte adya shipiviShTa nAmAryaH shaMsAmi vayunAni vidvAn |
taM tvA gRRiNAmi tava samatavIyAn kShayantamasya rajasaH parAke ||
This prayer addressed to Lord Vishnu says "I specially extol Your name".
Swami Bodhendra, who was a great advocate of chanting of the Lord's name
